I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, during an era where art from any and all medias exploded into the paradigms of ordinary people. When I was a little girl, an older neighbor commented on my drawing skills. Back then, my gender was discouraged from seriously pursuing any creative paths, but a spark was neverthelss ignited. Doodles of childhood fantasies aside, I had aspirations to create beautiful work; endless busy work or house cleaning would never satisfy me, and a little voice boomingly announced in my pig-tailed head that I am, and fully will be, an artist. Today, I am a printmaker and painter. I obtained my B.F.A. in Fine Arts from San Jose State University. My work generally falls under abstract design and symbolism. I am constantly in wonderment of how the past and present interconnect or sometimes even clash and cause tension, rather than harmony. I am in a contiunal process of searching for and meticulously observing where my position in my family, in this country, in this world, and in our universe lies - hopefully, this is successfully translanted into my art. My techniques are specialized within monoprints which involve combining etching and monotype. Monotype is simply painting on plexiglass, which I then transfer to paper through my printing press. I also utilize cincore (collage) and photo transfer, as well. For painting, I mainly use oil, and I am now developing encaustic (wax) work. Besides making art everyday, I teach and hold printmaking workshops in my studio. Currently, you can find my artwork in the Dolby-Chadwick gallery in San Francisco and Saori Fine Art. Numerous individuals and corporations (Adobe in San Jose, Hotel Paloma in San Francisco, De Anza College, and Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto) have also purchased my work.
